Pulmonology (Chest Diseases)
Diseases affecting the respiratory system can impair lung function, causing symptoms such as cough, wheezing, chest pain, fatigue, weight loss, and fever. The Pulmonology Department provides diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring using advanced medical technologies. The department includes a Respiratory Physiology Laboratory for spirometry, diffusion tests, exercise testing, and arterial blood gas analysis, as well as comprehensive allergy skin testing. The Bronchoscopy Unit performs rigid and fiber-optic bronchoscopies for early and accurate diagnosis of lung diseases, including lung cancer. Sleep-related breathing disorders, especially obstructive sleep apnea, are assessed and treated in the Sleep Laboratory. Smoking is a major preventable cause of respiratory diseases, including chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer. In children, secondhand smoke can trigger respiratory infections and asthma. Prevention remains the most effective strategy.
