Ophthalmology (Eye Health and Diseases)
Eye health is vital for quality of life, as untreated eye diseases can lead to permanent vision loss. Regular eye exams are recommended for everyone, and anyone with vision problems should consult the Department of Ophthalmology. Advanced devices, including autorefractors, tonometers, biomicroscopes, and ophthalmoscopes, are used for precise examinations, with patient data stored digitally. Surgeries are performed by experienced surgeons using modern techniques and equipment. Cataract surgery is usually done with sutureless phacoemulsification under topical anesthesia. Complex procedures, such as vitrectomy for diabetic eye disease, photodynamic therapy and foveal translocation for macular degeneration, and corneal transplants using donor corneas, are successfully performed. Glaucoma, strabismus, and retinal detachment surgeries are conducted using appropriate methods, while LASIK and excimer laser procedures correct myopia, astigmatism, and hyperopia under topical anesthesia.
