Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology
The Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology is a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi. In this department, outpatients are monitored and treated, and hospitalization is arranged when necessary. In addition, patients from other hospital departments who are receiving inpatient care are also monitored and treated for infections. The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, affiliated with the department, performs tests to identify disease-causing microorganisms. In our laboratory, tests are conducted in bacteriology (the study of bacteria), virology (the study of viruses), mycology (the study of fungi), parasitology (the study of parasites), and serology (the study of antibodies formed in response to microorganisms in the blood).
