Mentoplasty

The chin reduction or mentoplasty intends to reshape the chin by reducing the size or with an implant. Mentoplasty is usually done inside the mouth and the scars are not visible. It can improve facial aesthetics by bringing the chin into better balance with other facial features.

HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED

The surgeon makes an incision inside the mouth (near the lower lip) or under the chin and separates the bone located at the tip of the chin, then shapes and removes excess bone so that the contour proportions are adequate. The bone tip is then repositioned along with the remaining chin section, and both parts are supported using wires and plates.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY

Chin surgery has a high degree of satisfaction on the part of the patients who undergo it, obtaining a favorable profile and fit on the face. After the first 8-10 days you will be able to start to see the final results but most of the inflammation will not be resided for 1 month.

RECOVERY

The inflammation process can take from 1 to 2 weeks and depends on the physical recovery process of each patient. After the first 8-10 days you will be able to start to see the final results but 90% of the inflammation will not have resided for 1 month. The initial diet will be soft until the wound heals properly. Since the incision is through the mouth, good oral hygiene must be maintained, including mouth rinses after each meal.
